About Mike Urichuk
Educator, coach, referee, volunteer, but especially, father and husband.
Mike Urichuk lives in Winkler, Manitoba with his wife Melanie and daughter Norah. As a father, Urichuk holds love, pride, and patience in his heart and lives to support the growth of those around him.
Urichuk completed university in Brandon where he served as Education Commissioner for the Brandon University Students’ Union (BUSU) for 2013-14. In this role, Urichuk worked alongside with the executive members to better define the commissioner positions and impose a flat tuition rebate for those elected to these positions. This BUSU council was able to pass years of back-logged motions and amendments and create the salary position of an office and services manager without raising student fees.
Urichuk has been active with Winkler Minor Basketball since 2015 through organizing as well as mentoring young players, coaches, and referees. Urichuk organized the Harvest 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament in 2016 & 2017.
Urichuk currently serves as the Vice-President of the Garden Valley Teachers’ Association and also sits as the chair of the Collective Bargaining Committee. Urichuk sees firsthand the impacts that government legislation is having on bargaining in the province and believes that we can and should be doing better.
Urichuk is a proud member of the Manitoba Teachers' Society but does want to clearly state that his positions are not reflective of the Society nor does his membership reflect their endorsement of his candidacy.
